An investigative journalist, Schlosser rose to prominence with the publication of his book "Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Diet". The book looked at questionable practices in the fast food industry. Richard Linklater adapted it into the 2006 movie Fast Food Nation (2006). Schlosser followed it up with "Chew on This: Everything You Don't Want to Know about Fast Food" (a further look at the fast food industry's practices). His other publications are 2003's "Reefer Madness" (about marijuana, the use of migrant workers in California's strawberry fields, and the American pornography industry) and 2013's "Command and Control: Nuclear Weapons, the Damascus Accident, and the Illusion of Safety" (about the non-nuclear explosion of a Titan II missile in Damascus, Arkansas, in 1980).
His first child, with Shauna Redford, was born in January, 1991.
