Trivia
The movie takes into account most of scientific predictions regarding the greenhouse effect in Mexico City for the next 30 years, global warming and the eventual lack of fossil fuels: in a voiceover heard during Pablo's first arrival to work, the announcer says that average temperature is 45° C (115° F), which, for Mexico City, is quite a lot. As well, the broadcaster announces that the Salamanca Oil refinery has been shut down. As this refinery is the largest one in the country, taking into account Mexico's main income is oil exportation and the panoramic views of a smog-filled atmosphere, is possible to conclude Mexico (and possibly most of the planet) is a near state of emergency, which would support the regime's urgency for control.

The movie contains many references to socialist-oriented characters in Mexico's past: first, the painting at General Benavides' dining room is the work of muralist artist David Alfaro Siquieros, a well-known member of the Mexican Socialist Party (PPS); the name of the tyrant, PEC, forms the initials Plutarco Elias Calles, a president who, in fact, tried to outlaw religious worshiping and thus started the Cristero Wars. Finally, the name of the rebel leader, Father Miguel, is a reference to Miguel Pro, a rebel priest who was shot during the Cristero Wars and recently canonized by Pope John Paul II.
