Trivia
Scrooge's grave can still be visited at St Chad's Church graveyard, Shrewsbury, where the churchyard sequence was shot - the production team left the gravestone in place once filming was completed.

This is, perhaps, the only version of ACC in which Scrooge wears dress-slacks, a dress-shirt and a vest (with an Alistair Cooke-type smoking jacket)...instead of merely his nightgown, slippers and cap. (Rumor has it that George C. Scott openly reeled at the very thought of portraying Scrooge under such conditions...especially in mid-winter England.) In the book Scrooge is wearing his shirt, pants, vest, a dressing gown and slippers. Scott's clothing is very close to the book.

Charles Dickens took the name Scrooge from an archaic English verb meaning "to squeeze."

Goofs
The string holding up the Spirit of Christmas Past's snuffer is briefly visible when she removes her hand from above it in the first scene with Scrooge. The snuffer shakes and wobbles perceptibly (as the string is slightly moved) throughout the scene.

When Tiny Tim comes to meet his father, Bob Cratchit at 7:00pm on Christmas Eve at his place of work, it is still light outside, when it should be dark.

When the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come takes Scrooge to the cemetery, and Scrooge asks why they are here, you can see a rope at the bottom of the screen that pulls the Ghost across the graveyard to simulate it floating across on air.

Q
A Note Regarding Spoilers
A
The following FAQ entries may contain spoilers. Only the biggest ones (if any) will be covered with spoiler tags. Spoiler tags have been used sparingly in order to make the page more readable.
Q
What is the purpose of the bandage wrapped around the head of Marley's ghost?
A
Back in Dickens' time, undertakers would tie a bandage around the head and under the chin to keep the mouth from springing open. A dead person's jaw will hang open after a while because the muscles do not hold tension and the tongue swells forcing the jaw wide open. Nowadays, undertakers will sew or wire the mouth shut for the same reason.
Q
Is "A Christmas Carol" based on a book?
A
Yes. A Christmas Carol (full title: A Christmas Carol in Prose, Being a Ghost Story of Christmas) is an 1843 novella by English writer Charles Dickens [1812-1870]. The novella was adapted for the screen by Roger O. Hirson.
