Diahann Carroll received an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of the glamorous socialite Marion Gilbert on the show.

In August 2006, Nick At Nite premiered new shorts titled "Hillman College Reunion" with cast members reprising their characters. The shorts featured Lisa Bonet, Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Darryl M. Bell, Cree Summer, and Sinbad. They aired during a week-long marathon of the series.

Jasmine Guy originally auditioned for the part of Jaleeesa. By the time she had officially signed for the series, the opening credits sequences had already been filmed, which is why her image was never seen in them during the first season.

Throughout the course of the series, Whitley's talents go back and forth between being an accomplished singer/dancer and having little to no singing/dancing skills at all.

Ron Johnson: You look ridiculous.

Marion Gilbert: Ladies, ladies please. Your loud screaming will give me a headache which will cause me to frown and lead me to an early face lift.
