In season 4 (Freak Show), characters sing songs that were released after 1952 (the time period in which Freak a show takes place). Many fans criticized and disliked this, but there is a deep and unique reason to this idea. Ryan Murphy has said in an interview that he picked songs that were made by artists who were known as or called themselves freaks. For example: David Bowie, Lana Del Rey, Nirvana, etc.

The character of Edward Mordrake who appears in Freakshow was an actual person. He was a 19th century aristocrat who was said to have suffered a form of Diprosopus. He actually did have an extra face on the back of his head, which could neither eat nor speak out loud, although it was described as being able to laugh and cry. Edward reportedly begged doctors to have his "demon face" removed, claiming it "whispered" to him at night. No doctor would attempt the surgery. He later commited suicide at 23.

Frances Conroy ("Old" Moira O'Hara) is right-eye dominant. Many times you can see that she, as Moira, is focusing on the object she's looking at using her "blind" right eye instead of her left eye.

Faq

I have not seen previous seasons. Can I watch later seasons?

In theory, yes, because each season does follow a totally different story line and theme. But all the seasons are contained within the same universe, and with season 4 and onwards they're linking together the seasons (by using the same characters) so it's recommended you watch it in order just the same as most other shows

If the ghosts can't leave the house then how did they go to the beach, etc.?

The ghosts can travel outside the confines of the property on Halloween. All scenes with Tate, and other ghosts, that take place off the property were on Halloween.

Is the series available to own?

Yes, seasons 1-3 are available to own on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download. Season 4 is currently airing.The Complete First Season was released in both DVD and Blu-ray formats on September 25th, 2012.The Complete Second Season: Asylum was released in both DVD and Blu-ray formats on October 8th, 2013.The Complete Third Season: Coven was released in both DVD and Blu-ray formats on October 7th, 2014.Seasons 1-3 can be digitally downloaded from iTunes and Amazon.
