Trivia
It was very important to Robert De Niro that the movie felt authentic. He and director Harold Ramis would drive around Little Italy in New York looking for real people to cast for the movie.

In the movie, Dr. Sobol dreams that he is shot by some gangsters while buying fruits from a fruit stand. This is a parody of a similar scene in The Godfather when Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) was also shot buying fruits from a fruit stand. Coincidentally, Robert DeNiro played a younger Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather 2.

The prison scenes at the end were actually filmed at the Sing Sing prison. The prisoners seen walking down the corridor at the beginning of the scene are real prisoners who belonged to the prison's drama club. The shooting at Sing Sing took only one day.

Caroline: [complaining about her ex-boyfriend] What do you think I should do?

Dr. Ben Sobel: [to Patient/wife] "Here's what I think you should do, Elaine. I would do whatever he says. If he wants you to talk, talk. I would get on all fours and bark like a dog. I would do whatever it takes. Smoke some joints! Drink some wine! Whatever it is, to get off on each other and be happy. I mean, come on, look at the two of you! Where are you running? This is the time to be happy! Life is just too short! Too FUCKING short!"

Dominic: Times are changing. You've got to change with the times.

A

Q
Is 'Analyze This' based on a book?
A
No. Analyze This is based on a screenplay by American screenwriters Peter Tolan and Kenneth Lonergan along with the film's director Harold Ramis. It was followed by Analyze That (2002). The story idea is said to have been inspired by the TV show The Sopranos (1999-2007). Some viewers have wondered whether the film The Don's Analyst (1997), in which an aging don decides to retire from 'the family business' and seeks psychotherapy, might have been an inspiration for both Analyze This and The Sopranos.
