According to Joe D'Amato, some of the heads and bones in the catacombs were plastic imitations. Upon collecting the bones after the scenes had been shot, the crew by accident took with them some real bones. Since D'Amato did not dare to return them, he let them make a "pilgrimage" to his house.

What are the differences between the R-Rated/British BBFC 18 Version and the Uncensored Version?

The UK version of this scandalous splatter classic by Joe D'Amato was directly taken from the R-Rated version and was not further cut. Besides some violence, there were also some plot scenes cut. This was probably done in order to shorten the movie and tighten the storyline, which happens quite often in the US. In total nearly 9 minutes are missing in the R-Rated/BBFC 18 Version and a detailed comparison between both versions with pictures can be found here.
