Trivia
Paper (and photos, books, and even picture frames) in the series have corners cut off. It is said that director Michael Rymer did this during the miniseries as a reference to how he had to "cut corners" financially to make the miniseries work on a limited budget. The practice was continued into the series, although the producers have said on numerous occasions that although it seemed like a "neat idea at the time", having to cut the corners off every document seen onscreen became a nuisance for the weekly series.

Q
Which characters are Cylons?
A
The seven main models are:#1 Brother Cavil#2 Leoben Conoy#3 D'Anna Biers#4 Simon#5 Aaron Doral#6 Gina/Shelley Godfrey/"Number Six"#8 Sharon Valerii/Boomer/AthenaThe "Final Five" are:- Colonel Saul Tigh- Chief Galen Tyrol- Samuel Anders- Tory Foster- Ellen Tigh Spoiler-filled explanation of the Final Five: The "Cylons" that had been created on Kobol (including humanoid models) rebelled, causing the Exodus to the Twelve Colonies. The humanoid Cylons escaped to the "Thirteenth Colony," or Earth. On Earth, they lived as humans (despite being the original humanoid Cylons), until they created their own race of Cylons, which rebelled against them, attacking Earth with nuclear weapons.Saul and Ellen Tigh, Galen Tyrol, Sam Anders, and Tory Foster escaped the nuclear holocaust on Earth several thousands of years prior to the events of the series. They had developed resurrection technology, so that when the Earth was destroyed and their lives ended, they would resurrect on a ship in Earth's orbit. They traveled to the Twelve Colonies, the journey taking thousands of years without faster-than-light capability, to convince the humans left over from Kobol not to repeat their mistake and develop artificial life again.Upon their arrival to the Twelve Colonies, they discovered that they were too late. The humans were already at war with the Centurions (this iteration created by Daniel Greystone on Caprica), who had begun to experiment with creating humanoid life (such as the Hybrids, which run the Basestars in the series). The Five, in exchange for peace between the humans and Cylons, gave them the resurrection technology and developed eight humanoid models - the seven listed above, and "Number Seven," or "Daniel." The Armistice was declared, and peace had been achieved, the Cylons disappearing entirely. The Number Ones, or "Cavils," grew frustrated with being limited to human form, and not being allowed to continue fighting humans. He also grew jealous of Ellen's attachment to Number Seven (Daniel). So Cavil completely destroyed the entire line of Daniels, and erased the memories of the Tighs, Tyrol, Anders, and Tory, scattering them throughout the Colonies with false, implanted memories, to have them experience the nuking of the Colonies from the human perspective. This will probably be updated with the release of The Plan on October 27.
Q
What becomes of the characters after the end of series?
A
We know that Helo and Athena's half human/half Cylon daughter has at least one child of her own (from whom modern humanity is descended) and dies reasonably young, the archaelogists referring to her fossilized remains as that of a young woman. Galen is last seen heading for an area which sounds reminiscent of Western Europe, the area from which the ancient tribe of the 'Gaels' originates which suggests he may be its' founder. Ancient Greek myths utilise many of the names of the characters including Apollo (The Sun God) and Athena (Goddess of War and Wisdom) which suggests they may have been based on the actual story of the Galactica with the Greek region of Thrace deriving its' title from Starbuck's surname, Lee having promised she wouldn't be forgotten. Mankind adopts the names of the 12 tribes to identify various star constellations. The rebel Cylon Centurions are given their baseship with which to explore the galaxy and have been suggested as the source of UFO sightings if they periodically checked in on their human progeny. The fate of the non-rebel Cylons and all other characters is unclear.
Q
Do I need to see the TV miniseries before I see the series?
A
Yes. The miniseries sets up all of the events, characters, and themes of the series. The Region 1 dvd set has the miniseries packaged with the first season.
