Gareth Thomas and Tom Baker always wanted to do a cross-over between Doctor Who (1963) and Blake's 7 (with the two heroes passing each other in a corridor, exchanging greetings) but this was vetoed by producers of both series. Indeed the invasion from Andromeda at the end of the second season was originally going to be invasion by Doctor Who's Daleks, also created by Terry Nation.

Producer David Maloney's first choice for script editor was Robert Holmes. Holmes declined the offer but recommended Chris Boucher, who got the job instead.

Nick Tate, Duncan Preston, Paul Seed and Andrew Ray were amongst those looked at to play Tarrant, as the character was originally conceived as an older captain figure than was eventually used.

Dr. Havant: Reality is a dangerous concept. Each one of us interprets it in a slightly different way. Every sense impression is filtered by the brain and altered, sometimes just a little, sometimes completely, to fit our individual model of what the world is about. What is the meaning of the final episode of the series?
*spoilers* Avon has united the various anti-Federation forces and given them the antidote to the drugs the Federation use to keep their populations docile. For all intents and purposes the war is over and the rebels have won. He goes in search of Blake to use as a figurehead to lead the new regime but ironically at the hour of their greatest triumph the heroes are surrounded and gunned down by Federation troopers. However whilst when Avon shoots Blake his weapon creates a bloody impact wound when the Federation troopers shoot the rest of the 7 none of them are visibly harmed. It may be that they are actually only stunned.
