Cheech and Chong's Next Movie (1980) was actually Cheech & Chong's Second Movie, the second of seven Cheech and Chong movies starring the comedy duo Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong.
In the scene where Red and Chong walk into the music store, Chong picks up a Fender Stratocaster and starts playing. The camera cuts around the store and, when it cuts back to Chong, he is suddenly playing a Gibson Les Paul.
When Chong is urinating out of the open bathroom window, the
camera pulls back slightly and reveals that the "pee" is actually water running from a sponge being held just off frame. The crew member holding the trickling garden hose quickly pulls his hand out of frame, but not fast enough.
Who created the effect of the flashing colored lights seen as on the bottom of the UFO as it was departing the pot plantation?
A
At the direction of the production designer, Fred Harpman, Jim Cochran was asked to design a couple of sterling silver electronic pendants for the movie. They were about 2 inches in diameter and mounted to a sterling silver box chain. Control of the different functions had to be done off camera. At the end of the 10 foot control interface a 9 volt battery and speed control provided control of the effects. The look of the pendants was to be in the shape of a robot. The incandescent grain of wheat lamps used in the design had to be filmed in at least 100 foot-lamberts of lighting. More to follow in the near future.
