Q
Aside from the title character do any later Frasier characters appear on Cheers?
A
Only Frasier's mother, Hester Crane who appears in one 'Cheers' story and is seen in flashback in a couple of 'Frasier' stories (having died in the period between the two series). Peri Gilpin and John Mahoney who play regulars on 'Frasier' both guest star as different characters on 'Cheers', Mahoney playing a jingle writer hired by Rebecca to advertise the bar. In the 'Frasier' story 'They're playing our song' it is his character of Martin Crane who comes up with the successful jingles for his son's show, much to Frasier's chagrin.
Q
Where do the photos in the opening credits come from?
A
The images were taken from old archives of photographs, and then treated to look older. The entire sequence was created by Castle/Bryant/Johnsen, Inc. An original, untreated photograph can be seen here: http://www.shorpy.com/node/7798 The newspaper headline "We win!" refers to the ending of prohibition.
Q
Why did Shelley Long leave the show after its fifth season?
A
At the time, there were various rumors going around about this. Some said that Shelley wasn't getting along well with the other cast members, especially Kelsey Grammer. It was also said that she left to pursue her movie career. More recently, Shelley Long says that she always intended to leave after her initial five-year contract was up, in order to spend time with her daughter while she was still young.
