John Shrum designed the pilot's stage sets, salvaging set elements from the former "soap" designed by Spencer Davies. Shrum integrated stair, door, window, fireplace mantle units. Building the Horton House set, the living room was spread open like a book, the central arch in front of the main house door, a "y" hallway leading to the rest of the house. John selected a neutral color pallet of "putty" grays for all the scenery. This color scheme was a common pattern in color television set design. Early transmission electronic signals had problems with backgrounds with intense hues, as reds, yellows, oranges, because these background colors reflective color values affected actors' skin tones. Blue hues were the most compatible, and for this reason, the hospital's corridors, nurse stations and lounges, rooms, were established in the pale blue color. After the pilot sold as a series in 1965, John Shrum continued as Art Director, acting as supervising Art Director, allowing novice Assistants to helm the art direction duties. Hub Braden Art Directed the summer of 1968. Ed Flesh, from NBC-NY, replaced Hub and was Art Director from 1968 through 1974. During this period, Studio 9 was built to move the series to it's own stage, freeing up the main NBC Stages 2, 4, 1 & 3 for Specials and for host-variety series (Andy Williams, Phyllis Diller, Bob Hope, Johnny Carson). In mid 1969, Gloria Monte developed a new day-time series "Bright Promise" with Hub Braden as Production Designer. This program moved in and was set-up on the other half of Stage 9. This combination of shows utilized the stage facility full time. "Return to Peyton Place" replaced "B.P." in 1971-1973, until the show was canceled. Milt Altman, NBC-Art Department Director, moved Ed Flesh from the "Days" show responsibilities assigned to work on game show pilots. Hub Braden took over "Days" from 1973-1975. Milt Altman then assigned Braden to the new game show series, "Wheel of Fortune" (pilot set designed by Ed Flesh), NBC practice was to use one person as the art director, expected to decorate the sets. Replacing Hub, Milt Altman assigned Scott Rittenhour as Art Director to "Days" production staff. Scott demanded an assistant art director. Milt assigned (a newly hired) Mary Ann Biddle as Scott's assistant, who was expected to decorate the sets.

Mimi: I'm not interested in crashing anybody's first date. I'm not going to hold the ring box while you propose to Belle. I'm not going to be in the delivery room when she has your first kid. This threesome, it's officially splitsville.

Q
What happened to Brady Black? Why aren't he and Chloe Lane married anymore?
A
In December 2007, Chloe Lane returned to Salem from Austria, without Brady Black, to attend the Salem High reunion with Belle, Shawn and Philip. After her short stay seems to turn into an extended one, she confided in Philip that Brady has gone missing and she is a prime suspect in his disappearance according to the Vienna authories. Chloe and Brady had been having problems in their marriage and often fought loudly, disturbing neighbours. On the night Brady disappeared, he was dragged out of their apartment and blood was left on the scene, causing police to suspect Chloe had done something to him. She maintained her innocence the entire time.Meanwhile, theories ran rampant as to what had happened to Brady. With John (Brady's father) being dead, Marlena (Brady's stepmother) assumed control on behalf of the family to find out where Brady was and had gotten Roman and the police involved in the investigation. Victor Kiriakis, Brady's grandfather, was also conducting an independent search to Brady's whereabouts. Everyone had thought that Brady was kidnapped by the DiMeras or had been killed. The storyline was backburnered from February 2008 until May 2008, when Nicole Walker Kiriakis came back to town. She discovered Victor's dirty little secret - that he had arranged for Brady's kidnapping. Brady had fallen in with the wrong crowd/Chloe's friends in Vienna, and had become addicted to drugs. Victor learned this and blamed Chloe for Brady's addiction. Victor staged the kidnapping to trap Chloe, but had really taken Brady to a rehab facility. Everyone was furious with Victor, but relieved to learn Brady was ok and getting treatment. Shortly after, Brady filed for divorce from Chloe since he too blamed her for his downward spiral. Note - Brady was never seen on the show during this time.Update: As of November 2008, Brady is back in Salem. He returned to visit his father, John, who is ill and experiencing memory issues. He also returned to make ammends for those he hurt while he was on drugs. Brady and Chloe patched things up and he is now involved in keeping Nicole's miscarriage a secret while Chloe is engaged to Lucas but having an affair with Daniel Jonas.
Q
Where can I see clips of old episodes?
A
You Tube has many users whose channels are devoted to Days of Our Lives. They include FrancoMendez.
Q
In which State is Salem located?
A
The location of the fictitious town of Salem has never been revealed in the show's history. Whenever a car's license plate is shown on the show it says "The Friendly State" on it. The characters all root for Chicago teams (the Cubs, the Bulls, the Bears, etc.) and made frequent references to day trips to Chicago, however, strongly implying Illinois, Indiana, or a nearby state..
