Trivia
In the "Making of" Featurette for Die Hard: With a Vengeance (1995), actor William Sadler (Col. Stuart) said that for this movie, his favorite part pertaining to his character was when Col. Stuart crashes the Windsor Air plane by pretending to be someone from the tower.

Several scenes were filmed but cut from the final release of the film: An extended version of the scene when McClane enters the terminal, featuring shots of a children's choir singing Christmas carols (the audio of the choir singing still remains in the final cut, but only heard in the background), A scene of two of the terrorists killing off two painters and stealing their truck as well as their uniforms (to pose as painters later in the Skywalk SWAT team ambush scene). An extended version of the scene where McClane first meets up with Marvin the janitor, and finally an extended scene of Marvin showing McClane the best way to access the tunnels to get to the runways, which includes a scene where McClane has to walk carefully across a narrow beam over a hot boiler. All of these cut scenes can be viewed in the Deleted Scenes section of the Special Features disc.

Local transmission of The Simpsons (1989) shown on the plane to "calm the passengers" is the episode [The Simpsons: There's No Disgrace Like Home (1990)] where Dr. Monroe allows each family member to use shock therapy on other family members. Later, Holly McClane shocks Richard Thornburg in the lavatory.

Goofs
McClane impeding the aileron on the terrorists 747 wouldn't have prevented take off, since they are used to turn the plane. The plane could have taken off and the General could have flown the plane, although difficultly, compensating for the aileron with the rudder.

Reagan National Airport and Dulles International (IAD) are only 27 miles apart. However, Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) is still only 57 miles from Dulles by road, 46 from one to the other directly. In the movie, we are informed that National has closed due to weather conditions, but BWI is never mentioned, even though it was dedicated in 1950 and acquired by the State of Maryland in 1972. If the planes low on fuel could circle for 90 minutes, they could have easily been redirected to BWI.

The entire premise of the movie, is that shutting down the communications of an airport, will leave the overhead aircraft helpless and uninformed. In fact, any Flight Service station transmitter, airport, aircraft radio shop, or aircraft, within fifty miles, could have alerted those pilots of the situation. Literally, there would be hundreds of radios in the area, that could be used to end the terrorist plot.

Q
Where did Stuart's men get the disguises they use for their ambushes?
A
Where Baker and Thompson acquired the utility company uniforms they use to get into the church is never shown. Where the henchmen who ambush the SWAT team on the Skywalk get their uniforms, though, is shown in a deleted scene, which according to the script happens after Baker kills the custodian. Two painters stop their van in a service area complaining about the pressure being applied to them to finish their work on time. Suddenly, O'Reilly and Sheldon show up, O'Reilly with a suppressed pistol in hand. The first painter turns and is shot in the head. His partner turns to investigate the noise and is shot as well. O'Reilly and Sheldon then shove the bodies in back and lock the doors, and O'Reilly radios to Stuart, "This is Alice. We're down the rabbit hole."
Q
Is 'Die Hard 2' based on a book?
A
Yes. Die Hard 2 (aka Die Harder), was based on 58 Minutes (1987), a novel by American writer Walter Wager. Roderick Thorp, the author of Nothing Lasts Forever (1979) on which the first Die Hard (1988) movie was based, was given credit for creating the characters. Wager's novel was adapted for the film by American screenwriters Steven E. de Souza and Doug Richardson. Die Hard 2 was followed by three sequels, Die Hard: With a Vengeance (1995), Live Free or Die Hard (2007) and A Good Day to Die Hard (2013).
Q
What is 'Die Hard 2' about?
A
It is Christmas eve, and LAPD Lieutenant John McClane (Bruce Willis) is waiting at Washington D.C.'s Dulles Airport to pick up his wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) on her way from Los Angeles. At the same time, a plane is arriving from the Republic of Valverde carrying deposed dictator and drug baron Ramon Esperanza (Franco Nero), who is being extradicted to theUnited States to stand trial on charges of drug trafficking. Meanwhile, a team of mercenaries led by Colonel Stuart (William Sadler) has contrived to shutdown the airport's runway lights and its Instrument Landing System (ILS), forcing the arriving airplanes to circle the airport until they run out of gas. Sensing that something big is about to happen, McClane attempts to alert airport terminal police Captain Carmine Lorenzo (Dennis Franz) about his suspicions, but Lorenzo doesn't believe him. Consequently, McClane is forced to take things into his own hands.
