In Vegas Dolan stays at The Montressor Hotel. This is a tip to the story that inspired Stephen King to write 'Dolan's Cadillace' - Poe's 'The Cask of Amontillado'. "For God's Sake, Montressor!" is a famous line from this tale.

Several articles of graffiti are seen in the rest area near the highway; 'Don't look up here, you're pissing on your shoes' above the urinals, 'My mother made me a whore' on the wall, and 'All that you love will be carried away' in the broken map case. These are taken from another short story by Stephen King called "All you love will be carried away", found in the collection 'Everything's Eventual'.

Sylvester Stallone was originally slated to play the role of Jimmy Dolan. He was later replaced with Christian Slater.

The highway where "Dolan" is "buried", according to the film (shown on a sign and on the work order) is US Highway 71. US 71 is nowhere near Las Vegas or Los Angeles. It runs from Southern La. to Northern Mn.

Robinson is following Dolan's Cadillac to Los Angeles and at the detour, the sign points "DETOUR" to the right yet the highway flag-person sends them to the left into the desert.

The second time it shows Robinson target shooting in the desert, he is shown loading his gun. When the cylinder is closed there is one empty chamber, meaning that he only has four shots loaded in this five shot gun. When he starts shooting at the target, however, he shoots five times.

Dolan: That brave vibration each way free, as the poet said.

Robinson: He looks like anybody you see on the street. But when he grins, birds fall off telephone lines. When he looks at you a certain way, your prostate goes bad, and your urine burns. The grass yellows up and dies where he spits. He's always outside. He came out of time. He has the name of a thousand demons. He can call the wolves and live in with the crows. He's the king of nowhere. I waited and watched. I watched and I waited. For years I saw him come and I saw him go. Dolan.

Dolan: They say the day you die is just like any other day, only shorter. The meaning of life is that it stops. That's what makes it so precious right? So if I kill you in a weird way, I'm giving you that gift.
