While watching a cartoon, Benicio assumes one of the characters is a villain because he's a shark, to which Driver replies "Are there no friendly sharks?". In Finding Nemo, Albert Brooks (who plays Bernie in this movie) voiced a fish who encounters a vicious-looking shark that turns out to be quite friendly.

In one scene when Driver and Irene are talking on the phone, Driver is seen using a cell phone. When the shot cuts to Irene, we hear Driver hanging up with what sounds like a landline phone being put back on its cradle.
