Q
Is Eliminators star Patrick Reynolds related to the RJ Reynolds (Camels, Winstons) tobacco family?
A
Yes, Patrick is a grandson of cigarette company founder RJ Reynolds (Camels, Winstons, Salems, KOOL), but he spoke out publicly against Big Tobacco in Congress, and has since become a leading advocate for youth tobacco prevention and cessation. Today Patrick is a frequent professional speaker at high schools, universities, and community groups. Does he still want to act? Make him a credible offer and find out.Patrick's anti-smoking TV news profiles and debates are posted at www.tobaccofree.org/tv/Mr. Reynolds' public bio as an anti-smoking advocate may be found at www.tobaccofree.org/bio/His private bio for the entertainment industry only is at www.tobaccofree.org/bioact/
Q
Are there any books on the making of ELIMINATORS / 80's movies?
A
Three books include histories of the making of ELIMINATORS:1. 'Empire of the B's - The Movie Madness of Charles Band 1973-1989' should be published in England / the UK by the end of 2012. It's a brilliant, serious work by an excellent journalist and film historian about the films of Charles Band. I'm Patrick Reynolds, the former actor who plays the Mandroid, and have read the chapter on Eliminators. It's a truly outstanding history of the film and production, and offers the macro perspective of Band and Empire Productions at the zenith of their power back in Hollywood, even as the Eliminators cameras filmed in Spain in the hot summer of 1985. The Eliminators chapter includes recent interviews with the cast and director, as do all the chapters; author David Jay emailed me in April, 2012, "The publisher has three or four books that they are planning on releasing in 2012, and mine is in the queue. But I don't yet have a definite release date. I do have a fair amount of trivia regarding ELIMINATORS, but wouldn't want to give it all away before the book is released, as much of it is fairly exclusive...." So keep a lookout for this worthy work.2. 'The Gilded Leaf: Triumph, Tragedy and Tobacco -- Three Generations of the RJ Reynolds Family and Fortune' by Patrick Reynolds and Tom Shachtman. This book is from the point of view of Patrick Reynolds, one of the Eliminators, and also a grandson of tobacco company founder RJ Reynolds (Camels, Winstons). The filming of Eliminators is mentioned as part of his autobiographical work about his family, and shows Reynolds in the context of being newly separated and divorced from his first wife and the unexpected death of his mother five days before the start of filming in and around Madrid. The Gilded Leaf was initially published by Little Brown, and is now available through www.iUniverse.com. It's also avaialable used at www.Amazon.com. For reviews see www.Tobaccofree.org/book/3. 'Gods in Spandex' by Suzanne Donahue and Mikael Sovijarvi, Succubus Press. This film history book of interviews with stars of 80s films -- all superheros in tights -- may be out of print. Patrick Reynolds was interviewed for this book, which is less scholarly than Empire of the B's, but nonetheless is a real recounting of the making of the films by the actors who starred in them.
