In one special episode, filmed in 1978 and televised in 1979, two families with a real life-threatening feud - the Hatfields and the McCoy's - competed to win a Hampshire hog. The hog was famously stolen by one family 13 years before, which marked the beginning of the feud.

Family Feud made numerous appearances as ABC prime-time specials at the height of its popularity in the early 1980s, usually featuring casts of popular sitcoms of the day. Weeks of the regular show were also often set aside for celebrities to play for charity.
