The character Zulay Velez grandmother pronounces her name slightly differently than the rest of the cast at the suggestion of writer Kevin Misher. Misher thought it would indicate a closer relationship between Zulay and her grandmother as family/friends often have pet names for each other.

In the last fight of the film Shawn rams Evan into a wall, which caves in from the impact. When Evan pushes back, Shawn reaches out for something to grab and accidentally pulls down the "crumbled" section of wall (actually a thin sheet that had been placed over the real one), exposing it as a special effects prop.

Q
Is "Fighting" based on a book?
A
No. Fighting is based on a screenplay written by screenwriter Robert Munic and director Dito Montiel.
Q
Why did Shawn get so mad at Harvey and Zulay?
A
Shawn was mad at Harvey and Zulay because they lied to him. Zulay had lied to Shawn when she said she didn't know the men in the club when she did. She had placed bets for Harvey and most likely indulged herself in this society. Harvey lied to Shawn when he said he didn't know Zulay when Shawn described her to him. When Shawn saw Harvey and her together he was probably thinking they had some kind of relationship and that Harvey was the father of Zulay's daughter.
