Trivia
Carole Bouquet had previously visited the set of Moonraker (1979) as the actress is French and interiors and some exteriors of that movie were filmed in Paris, France. She was remembered when it came to casting this movie. Two actors in the movie had previously appeared in the James Bond spoof Casino Royale (1967). John Hollis (Bald Man in wheelchair aka unofficially Ernst Stavro Blofeld) played a monk whilst John Wells (Dennis Thatcher) was Q's assistant Fordise.

At one point, it wasn't certain that Roger Moore would return. Actors considered for the role of Bond included: Lewis Collins, David Warbeck, Michael Billington, David Robb, Michael Jayston, Nicholas Clay and Ian Ogilvy. Oglivy, like Moore, spent several years playing The Saint on TV (Moore in The Saint (1962), Ogilvy in Return of the Saint (1978)), and would years later play a Bond-like character in a TV commercial.

In earlier drafts of the script, the chase sequence in the snow had James Bond pursued by bad guys in snowmobiles rather than on motorcycles.

Goofs
When Bond shoots Locque in the shoulder, he yells but he does not open his mouth.

When Melina and Bond are being dragged behind Kristatos' yacht, Kristatos is briefly seen keenly looking aft, towards Bond and Melina. After they manage to cut the rope and the yacht has turned around in order to run them over, Kristatos is again seen in exactly the same pose, still looking aft, which will now be in the exact opposite direction of Bond and Melina.

When Bond and Melina are to do the deep dive Bond mentions that they must use a mixture of helium and oxygen but when they communicate through the helmet radios, their voices sound normal, not high pitched like it should be.

Q
What exotic places does Bond visit in this movie?
A
The movie begins with Bond visiting the London grave of his wife, Teresa "Tracy" Bond (Diana Rigg), who was killed by Ernst Stavro Blofeld in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969). The Ministry of Defence then sends Bond to Madrid, Spain where he is ordered to track down a Cuban hitman, Hector Gonzales, and find out who hired him to kill Melina Havelock's parents. Unfortunately, Melina kills Gonzales before Bond can question him, so Bond returns to London where Q, using an identigraph, is able to identify Emil Leopold Locque (Michael Gothard), the man that Bond saw paying off Gonzales just before he was killed. Locque, an enforcer in the Brussels underground, has been reported in Cortina d'Ampezzo, a resort town in the Alps of northern Italy, so Bond goes to Italy. He doesn't find Locque, but agent Luigi Ferraro (John Moreno) introduces Bond to his informant Aris Kristatos. Kristatos informs Bond that Locque is employed by Milos Columbo, a Greek smuggler, so Bond travels to Corfu, a Greek island just off the coast of Albania, where he joins Melina and goes to see Columbo.
Q
Is the bald man at the beginning supposed to be Blofeld?
A
No name is given to the character nor is his face shown, but the long-haired, white, Persian cat with the diamond collar is a dead giveaway. Yes, the bald villian in the wheelchair (John Hollis) is supposed to be Bond's old nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
Q
What happened to Blofeld's cat?
A
Don't worry, animal lovers. Blofeld's cat scrambled out of his arms and ran off just before Bond's helicopter picked up Blofeld's wheelchair and dumped him down a tall smokestack.
