The film was submitted to the MPAA numerous times only to keep getting slapped with an X rating due to the gruesome murders. The following bits ultimately had to be trimmed for an R rating - Bernadette's throat gushing blood - A graphic image of Etienne mutilated by the dirt bike - More gruesome brain surgery shots - A bloodier impact of the bench press on Greg - A more violent bludgeoning of Dr. Faraday with the poker. The film finally got an R rating after these cuts. There are some rare prints circulating on the Internet that have the complete and uncut murder sequences.

When the car with Anne and her Mother in falls off the bridge, they show the fall repeated from several angles, in all but the last part of the scene before the car sinks, it hits the water on its roof, but when they show the car fall for the last time, and show it sinking, it hits the water the right way up.
