AHenry was John Wakefield and Sarah Mills' son, but after he was born Sarah put him up for adoption and had Abby, but kept her. Henry nursed a crush for Abby throughout adolescence which blossomed into love despite his relationship with Trish. When Wakefield killed all those people on the island he had a run in with Henry and spared his life cause he thought it might be his son, Wakefield found Henry a year later and told him the truth and then coached Henry through killings; which Sheriff Mills was calling "the Wakefield Copycat".While Henry was always somewhat unstable, the knowledge that his real mother abandoned him, his adopted parents actively kept this information from him throughout his life thus allowing him to fall in love with Abby is more than he can take. His father wants to exact revenge on Sheriff Mills as well as sate his bloodlust and exorcise Henry of his past, and Henry wants to get Abby back on the island again so Henry becomes engaged to Trish and convinces her to have a destination wedding at Harper's Island.Wakefield wants to kill everyone but Henry has his own plans, namely to remove all obstacles in the form of their friends so that he is the only one on earth she has left, which in his twisted mind will finally allow for them to be together, just the two of them on the island like they wanted as kids, this stems from adolescent Abby telling Henry she wishes he never had to leave and that they could live there forever just the two of them.A big thing as well is that he, after having time to adjust, is unfazed by the fact that they are half-siblings but realizes that the knowledge would not be so easily accepted by Abby. Part of his fantasy is revealing everything to her, no secrets, and it was simply too large a thing to conceal and he wanted to tell her and hoped that seeing as they were the only two people left she would be forced to accept the situation.
QWhy didn't JD tell Abby who attacked him?
AWhen she initially asks, for a moment it looks like he's going to say but then Henry appears behind her and JD believes if he tells her that Henry was the one who killed him, he would kill Abby too. JD knew a lot from reading Wakefield's diary and had figured out some of the truth, but he didn't know the extent of Henry's obsession with Abby, so it's natural that he didn't want to endanger her when his killer was listening in. Instead he tells her that it's "all about you, Abby," as a clue, and it does prove helpful.
QAfter the killings become apparent, why aren't there more locals on the island?
AAfter Thomas Wellington is killed it brings back memories of the Wakefield murders and most of the locals leave on the boat to the mainland. Seeing as the wedding was supposed to take place off-season, there weren't many people on the island to start with but when the murders start again the locals flee.
