Paul Newman had played The Battler in an October 18, 1955 TV version of the story also adapted by A.E. Hotchner. Dewey Martin played Nick and Frederick O'Neal Bugs. Two years earlier on Oct. 11, 1953 Arnold Schulman adapted the story for "Omnibus," and it featured Chester Morris as "The Battler" with Dick York and John Marriot.
