Q
Is the "Home Alone" series based on a book?
A
The first movie in the Home Alone series, Home Alone (1990), was based on a screenplay by producer John Hughes. The first three movies have subsequently been novelized by Todd Strasser. The concept for Home Alone came from a scene in Uncle Buck (1989) in which Macaulay Culkin, who plays Miles Russell in Uncle Buck and Kevin McCallister in Home Alone and Home Alone 2, fires off a series of questions to a would-be-babysitter through a letterbox opening in the front door. Due to the success of Home Alone and Home Alone 2, three more sequels have since been released: Home Alone 3 (1997), Home Alone 4 (2002), and Home Alone: The Holiday Heist (2012).
Q
Where does Kevin get firecrackers in New York in December?
A
When he realizes that he's landed in New York City, Kevin hires a cab and goes on a tour. One of the places he stops is Chinatown, where he can be seen coming out of Quong Yuen Shing & Co and stuffing two packets of firecrackers in his bag.
Q
What was the gangster movie that Kevin was watching in his Plaza hotel room?
A
It was called Angels with Even Filthier Souls. It's the sequel to Angels with Filthy Souls, the movie that Kevin was watching on video cassette in Home Alone. Both movies were created for Home Alone. However, they were patterned after a real movie...Angels with Dirty Faces (1938) starring James Cagney.
