Alan Bennett's reading of A.A. Milne's "The House at Pooh Corner" was the last ever story to be broadcast on Jackanory before the series was cancelled after some 3500 episodes because of falling ratings.
The three most frequent readers were Bernard Cribbins who presented 111 episodes; Kenneth Williams who presented 69 episodes; and John Grant who presented 55 episodes, narrating and illustrating his own stories about a caveman called Littlenose.
