André Benjamin is only mimicking Hendrix in the movie. Actually, we don't even hear the real Jimi Hendrix: all the guitar licks were provided by guitarist Waddy Wachtel.
André Benjamin is actually a mediocre guitar player. In an interview with NME he said: "One of the hardest parts [was] I'm a right-hand guitar player. I'm a horrible right-hand guitar player. I wouldn't even call myself a guitar player; I just pick it up and fiddle with it every now and then. When it came time to do the left-hand thing, it's almost like walking backwards and making walking backwards look normal."
The estate of Jimi Hendrix refused to loan the music rights to the film for André Benjamin to perform as Hendrix. The estate stated that they would not grant the rights unless they were allowed full participation in the film's production.
In the movie Linda Keith lent Jimi Hendrix a white electric guitar. In real life this was a Fender Stratocaster. The guitar in the movie is not a Fender Stratocaster, it has a distinctly different headstock shape and no visible markings.
There is a Bell Telephone push button phone shown in Jimi's hotel room in late September 1966. Push button phones did not become widespread in the UK until the 1980s and there certainly would not be an American made phone present in 1966.
Jimi Hendrix: I got no intentions. I see how intentions do people. They're like, I'm gonna plan to do this and I'm planning to do that. And as soon as things don't work out, it fucks them all up.
