Early in the movie, when Wyatt and Lex, the pilot of the private plane, are about to escape via parachute, Wyatt enters the cockpit and says: "Take the Chevy to the Levy." This is a sly, indirect music reference to Buddy Holly and his tragic early death in a small plane crash. The statement is a lyric from Don McLean's song, "American Pie", a song that expresses his sadness about the accident.
Melody is never in the actual movie seen in a full shirt, i.e. a full neckline and sleeves. The only time she is seen in a real shirt is during flashbacks in the "Three Small Words" music sequence.
Tara Reid starred as the band's drummer, Melody Valentine. Not knowing how to play drums before they filmed, she needed to learn the basics so she could appear to know what she was doing behind the kit. The producers hired Drew Thomas. He was in such bands as Bold, Into Another, and Youth of Today. Drew went on to play in the band God Fires Man along with members of Errortype:11 and Garrison.
During J&P's big concert at the end of the film, some of the kids in the live audience are also seen in other locations, watching the show on television.
When Melody hits Carson with the Matt Damon cut-out, she drops the cut out as Carson falls off the set. In the next scene the cutout is once again in her hands.
