The town of Middleton, where most of this series' characters live and work, is an example of "Anytown, USA," with several deliberately contradictory clues to its precise location. The people of Middleton seem to be of Californian "Valley" culture, but the town is home to numerous astronomical research facilities more typical of NASA bases in Houston, Texas and Canaveral, Florida. Middleton is also within driving distance of Rocky Mountains more suited to Colorado and its immediate neighbors. A Colorado location is supported in one of the earliest episodes: in Kim Possible: The New Ron (2002), Señor Senior Senior contemplates his plan to attack Middleton while looking at a map of Middle America, and his gaze seems to be focusing on Colorado, but this is directly contradicted in other episodes. Real life townships named Middleton can be found in the American states of Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin, as well in several non-American English-speaking countries such as England, Scotland, and Australia. The gag of a generic Middleton is probably a tribute to the similarly generic "Springfield" of The Simpsons (1989), Nancy Cartwright's (Rufus) breakthrough series.
