Trivia
The hint book was structured in the same way as others from this period; apparently, it was to have hidden answers just like the others, but the idea was nixed for some reason.

In this game, Samhain is portrayed as a mediator between this world and the next for the souls of the recently departed. Samhain is actually the name for an ancient Celtic festival which commemorates the dead from which present-day Halloween is derived, and is not the name of a deity or other personage of ancient Celtic polytheism. However, the idea of Samhain being an ancient Celtic religious figure dates back to at least the late first century, thanks largely to an Irish bishop named Cormac mac Cuilennàin and his book "Sanas Cormaic" (Irish Gaelic for "Cormac's Narrative"), which identified Samhain as such.

The song from the game, "Girl in the Tower", performed by Bob Bergthold and Debbie Seibert and written by Mark Seibert and Jane Jensen, was requested to be played on radio stations across the United States so much that some stations threatened to sue Sierra On-Line.

Goofs
Many items in the pawn shop refer to obstacles from the previous games, among them a bottle of "Gnome-be-gone". However, not gnomes but dwarfs were troublesome in the previous games, while the gnomes were friendly and helpful.

On the minimum path, when Alexander is in the alcove in the castle hallway, the pillar and the right wall is reflected on the floor, but there is no reflection of Alexander on the floor. Same thing applies for the portrait if it's on the floor.

On the short path, the guard dogs Wolf and Bay occasionally swap names (and voices) as well as the dogs Jowls and Mite when confronted by Alexander.
