Were there any plans to deal with Samantha Smith's death if the show had continued?
A
Yes. Samantha's part would not have been recast as the plan was for "Elizabeth" to go and live with her mother in Paris and a heretofore unseen third daughter (tentatively named "Libby") would join the father and Margaret Ann. Draft scripts involving "Libby" were hastily written but the producers ultimately decided that it had been a poor idea and was disrespectful to Samantha's memory and so production was ended.
