This is the 3rd time Rajinikanth, K.S.Ravikumar and A.R.Rahman have collaborated together, following the blockbusters Muthu (1995) and Padayappa (1999) However, Kochadaiyaan, the motion-capture film starring Rajini, scored by Rahman but only written, and not really directed, by Ravikumar, technically makes it their 4th.

Lingeswaran character reads the book "The Hero with a Thousand faces" by Joseph Campbell, during train journey that is just before the fight sequence. This story is set in 1939 (before India's independence) but the book was originally published in 1949.
