Suleiman I was the tenth Emperor-Sultan, and the longest-reigning, in the history of the Ottoman Empire. His reign began in 1520, when he was approximately twenty-six years old, continuing until his death in 1566, two months shy of his seventy-second birthday, after forty-six years on the throne.
