Trivia
In one scene we see Agatha Weiss (Mia Wasikowska) worshipping the (fictitious) Star of Clarice Taggart (Sarah Gadon) on the real Walk of Fame in Hollywood, Los Angeles. In real-life two members of the main cast of Maps to the Stars (2014) already have a Star on the Walk of Fame: John Cusack since April 24, 2012 at 6644 Hollywood Blvd. and Julianne Moore since October 3, 2013 at 6250 Hollywood Boulevard.

Julianne Moore and Mia Wasikowska previously played a mother and daughter in The Kids Are All Right (2010), in which Wasikowska's character also came from an unorthodox family with a lot of baggage.

In an almost 50-year career, this was the very first time that David Cronenberg ever filmed anything in the United States (his previous movies were mostly shot in Canada or the UK). The film shot for 5 days in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills (location manager Scott Trimble) and 24 days in Cronenberg's native Toronto (location manager Marty Dejczak).
