Trivia
In an original draft of this game, the ending had Solid Snake and Otacon turning themselves in for the crimes they committed, and executed. Most of the staff vetoed this option, so it was not used.

This is the first game in the MGS series where the main protagonist is not captured and tortured at any point. (Though during the 3rd act in Europe Liquid corners Snake and roughs him up, he never took Snake into custody.)

During the briefing missions on Snake and Otacon's transport plane, a limited edition MGS4 Playstation 3 is visible in the kitchen next to the radio, and Sunny sometimes plays a PSP.

Goofs
In this game, we're told that Para-Medic, the female doctor from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, was Dr. Clark, who Naomi mentioned several times in Metal Gear Solid. However, Naomi always referred to this person as male. This is an unfortunate translational error: the Japanese language provides many gender-neutral terms, so Clark's gender was never specified in the Japanese version of the first game. The "Metal Gear Solid Database" which Konami have released fudges this by claiming Dr. Clark was secretive, and Naomi mistakenly assumed she was male as a result.

Mei Ling, when introduced as a Navy Captain, is wearing a uniform called (Navy) Winter Blues. This particular uniform was phased out by 31 December 2010. If the game takes place in 2014, the wear of this uniform is improper, especially by a senior officer.

Q
Do I need to play the other Metal Gear Solid games to understand the events in MGS4?
A
Yes. It is strongly recommended that you play the previous 3 games before playing MGS4, so you can get a better understanding of the events and storyline. You could also read up on the events. There is a Metal Gear Solid Database available to download at the PlayStation store, free of charge. This database has in-depth articles on virtually everything in the Metal Gear universe and also includes a timeline of events and a character relationship diagram. The database also has a MGS4 lock, which prevents spoilers from MGS4 from being displayed. In order to unlock it, you must have a completed MGS4 game save.Other places to read up on the Metal Gear series include Wikipedia and the Metal Gear Solid wiki.
Q
There have been rumors that MGS4 will appear on the Xbox 360, is this true?
A
Both Konami and Sony have stated that this game is a PS3 exclusive. It will not be released on any other game console anytime soon. There is also an in-game joke by Otacon who tells Snake to change the game disc when the player is about half way through the game but then realizes that MGS4 benefits from the PS3's BluRay disc storage capabilities.
Q
Can you use CQC in MGS4?
A
Yes. You can use CQC using a pistol/knife combination and a rifle/knife combination, something that couldn't be done in MGS3.
