The character Michael Vaillant started in 1957 as a series of comics by French author Jean Graton, later continued by his son Philippe Graton. It was also adapted into television series and several animated pictures.

At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the car build seen as the Vaillant race car is a Lola B98/10, the one seen as the Leader race car a Panoz LMP-1 Roadster S, repainted in the respective team colors. The Vaillant car build seen during the Rallye was a Peugeot 206 in disguise.

The film was partly shot during the 24 Hours of Le Mans car race in June 2002. Event organizers added two cars to the field specifically to accommodate the filming but the production had to hire 6 professional drivers to drive the cars during the actual race.

Goofs
When David's car crashes, the windshield is thrown from the car. But when the car comes to rest, the windshield is back in place. And when the co-pilot gets out, he exits the car through the once again absent windshield.

Right when the Vaillant overtakes the Leader at the finish line, white smoke is seen rising from the front of the Leader car, upwards and to the rear. The following shot from the side shows the smoke been blown away horizontally in driving direction.
