Nathaniel Iwaszko and lead actor Jakob Podstawek wrote Niflheim together as a short film detailing their skills, so that they could use it as a demo reel when moving to America. It later expanded into a feature during Preproduction.

The budget was raised by Nathaniel Iwaszko, who worked as a Call Center employee during Preproduction. A large chuck of the budget was also donated by the Directors Parents, as well as by David Cooper and Jakob Podstawek.
