The vehicle license plates used the East German numbering system but were printed on West German plate blanks from West German DIN-standard dies. The plates were only issued for a very short time after the German reunification, As such, this caused an unintentional historical inaccuracy and anachronism.

This film's title was changed from "The Last Flight to Freedom" to "Night Crossing" due to similarity with the title of Disney's other movie The Last Flight of Noah's Ark (1980).

The ice-cold freezing conditions in the Bavarian Mountains provided a number of problems for the production. Compressed steam was used to burn off ice from snow fields. Snow was also swept off the icy roads. Moreover, trees had to be painted green in order to reflect the seasonal September look.
