Trivia
Just before Egon Olsen escapes from the TV studio in the beginning of the film, he tries several doors to find the toilet. Behind one of the doors he sees two old men sitting by a table in front of each other, typewriting. They are Henning Bahs and Erik Balling, the two men behind all 14 Olsenbanden films.

In late 1997 the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR), a public broadcasting network in former East Germany, joined the project as co-producer. The MDR wanted Leipzig as a location and Uwe Steimle for the role of a police officer from Saxony, but Nordisk Film refused any changes of the script.

During the scene in which the gang escape from the hospital, the sleeping patient in the bed is German journalist Frank Eberlein, regarded at the time as the world's biggest Olsen Gang fan and author of Germany's first Olsen Gang fan book, published in 1996. He was visiting the set to meet his heroes (and to write a report for the second edition of his book, which was published in 2000), and was given the small part.
