Savage Steve Holland did the animation for the film. He was upset Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert roasted his earlier John Cusack film, Better Off Dead... (1985). Two bunnies that get blown up at the end of the movie bear a strong (and not accidental) resemblance to the movie critics.

According to Savage Steve Holland, he and John Cusack did not get along during filming. Cusack was disappointed with their previous collaboration, Better Off Dead... (1985) and was angry with Holland. According to Holland, Cusack lightened up after that film got good reviews. But Cusack never spoke to Holland again.

When Hoops and the Stork twins are helping Cookie carry the boat to the water, Hoops is on the left side of the boat and Egg Stork is on the right next to Cookie, but when they reach the water, Hoops and Egg have switched sides.
