At the end of the movie, Oscar and Miriam's son is christened Oscar Theophilus Peter. Theophilus is Oscar's father, and Peter Carey is the writer of the original novel.
Oscar & Lucinda race each other in scrubbing a passageway - but in doing so, they crawl over their handiwork. For a clean floor, you scrub going backwards.
