"Deadfall" is the title of this movie's source novel by Keith Laumer. Star and lead actor Michael Caine had appeared in an earlier film called Deadfall (1968) about eight years prior this movie debuting. This is one likely reason that the picture was not titled "Deadfall". The Deadfall (1968) movie's source novel was also called that but written by Desmond Cory.
Trade paper 'Variety' reported that the film was "in the can for a year after being made under the title Fat Chance" before appearing in a "cutdown 87-minute release version".
The cruise liner at the end of the film looks far too modern for 1947. It is the MS Starward, built in 1968, and still in service today as the MV Orient Queen.
The road stripes during the car chase are wrong for the period. The road has a double yellow centerline and yellow road reflectors. Yellow centerlines were not adopted in the USA until 1971. The bridge railings are also too modern for the period.
