Trivia
In the lead up to the game's release, numerous edits were made to the original Portal, to both accommodate Portal 2, and to embed teasers for it, right inside the original. These edits were automatically patched into all copies of the game by the Steam software. The most notable change to Portal was that the ending was retconned so that now Chell *doesn't* escape the facility, but is instead dragged back inside by a robot, right after defeating GLaDOS (Hence explaining her need to escape all over again in this game). Another significant change was that radios were added to all the original test chambers. Each one of these radios, if placed in a certain location, will emit SSTV sounds, a primitive form of television broadcasting, which if decoded, provide users with various teaser images associated with Portal 2. Incidentally, a similar SSTV easter egg is hidden somewhere within Portal 2.

Cave Johnson's face is based on the appearance of Portal 2's Lead Animator, Bill Fletcher, and his assistant Caroline's was inspired by that of Valve Visual Designer, Laura Dubuk. In a hidden room you can see a portrait of the two of them created by Jeremy Bennett, another artist at Valve (Caroline's was artistically aged because Dubuk is a good deal younger than her in-game counterpart).

Goofs
A sequence during the boss fight establishes that the fight was taking place at night as indicated by the dark sky. When Chell escapes, the sun is shining. However, in between Chell being pulled back in from the moon and escaping she blacks out for an unknown amount of time, which could account for the sudden change of time outside.

During the final fight, Chell shoots a portal to the Moon, is transported there, and sees the Earth just over the Moon's horizon. But the portal was shot near the middle of the Moon, which means the Earth would have been high above the ground plane, not on the horizon.

Quotes
Wheatley: [Wheatley has just seized control of the facility from GLaDOS] Look how small you are down there! I can barely see you! Very tiny and insignificant! Let me tell you, I knew it was gonna be cool being in charge of everything, but - wow, this is cool! And check this out! I'm a bloody genius now!

Wheatley: It's hard to know, if I'm honest, to wonder if you're doing all this screen breaking on purpose. I'm beginning to actually take it personally. You know what I mean. It's like an insult to me.

Cave Johnson: [prerecorded message] The testing area's just up ahead. The quicker you get through, the quicker you'll get your sixty bucks.

Q
Why is Chell still navigating the Aperture facility? Didn't she escape at the end of Portal 1?
A
If you haven't replayed the original portal game recently, the premise of this game won't make any sense to you. Since it's initial release, Valve has changed the ending of Portal 1 via steam's automatic update system.Portal 1 now ends this way: After you kill GLaDOS, you and her crumbling frame are sucked upwards into a white light. Chell comes to in the Aperture enrichment center carpark (as before). You can't move and it would seem Chell is still dazed. From behind, you hear a masculine robotic voice behind you say "Thank you for assuming the party escort position." (This is a reference to an earlier order GLaDOS gave her to assume a submissive position, just after she escaped the pit of fire.) Then, as detailed in the online comic "Lab Rat", Chell is dragged to one of many "Long-Term Relaxation Chambers". These chambers, used to hold test subjects for long periods of time, are all offline, and it is implied that all other test subjects held in these chambers have died by the beginning of Portal 2. However, the mysterious "Rat Man", whose scribblings are seen in both games, turns Chell's relaxation chamber back on, preventing her death, but putting her to sleep until Wheatley wakes her up at the beginning of Portal 2.
