Bing Crosby was also offered the role of Columbo, but didn't accept it because he felt that it would interfere with his golfing.

The role of Lt. Columbo was offered to Lee J. Cobb, but he had to decline due to a clash in scheduling.

Several different sources have different first names for Columbo. By focusing in on his badge he occasionally flashed, some say it was Frank some say it was Joseph. Trivial Persuit has it as Philip, which they got from a trivia book that purposely made it up to see if anyone was paying attention. The writers say he definitely was not given a first name.

When Joan Hudson is under observation from outside her apartment, her silhouette is visible on the curtains as she moves about. She is clearly visible from top to toe. When the scene moves inside the apartment, the shadow of her lower half is completely obscured by a large sofa and a table.

During the anniversary toast at the beginning, there is a round of applause by the guests after the toast. However, all the guest have champagne glasses in their hands and no one is clapping.

When Dr Flemming is strangling his wife, he is directly behind her, the top of her head at his eye level and her hair almost touching his face. But in the closeups of his face during the struggle she isn't in the shot.

Joan Hudson: I had to see you. When I'm alone, I don't know, I... I get confused.

Dr. Ray Flemming: Is there something I can do for you?

Lt. Columbo: But one thing bothers me, Doctor. This man that we're talking about has taken a human life. Now wouldn't you say that he was insane?
