Richard Benjamin found out that Buck Henry was developing the show when he read a copy of Variety in his dentist's office. Intrigued by the title and eager to work with Henry again, he called for an audition shortly afterwards.

Richard Benjamin took a pay cut from his usual salary at the time because he wanted to work with Buck Henry.
