Trivia
As announced at the rodeo in the beginning of the movie, director Shawn Levy has confirmed that the film takes place in 2020. He stated in an interview: "The whole reason it's 2020 [and not further in the future] is because I knew this movie was going to be an underdog story and I didn't want the distant futurism of extreme sci-fi. I wanted the world to feel really familiar, so that the characters would feel really relatable. The cell-phone we used five or ten years ago looks different from today, but a diner still looks like a diner."

The film is based on "Steel" - a 1956 short story by I Am Legend (2007) author Richard Matheson. It was also made into an episode of Twilight Zone (1959) called Twilight Zone: Steel (1963).

In the scene where Atom is about to enter the ring before fighting Zeus, Hugh Jackman (who has made public before his admiration for boxer Manny Pacquiao), was seen carrying a case for Atom's remote control (at 1:40:34 & 1:43:50). On that box was a sticker of the Philippine flag, the country where Pacquiao was born. (Another view of the case is at 1:20:43 just before Atom's fight with Twin Cities.)

When Charlie and Bailey are on the roof, his hand position (wrapped up in her hair) changes with the camera angle. From behind Bailey, his fingers are straight (1:35:42 & 1:35:52). From behind Charlie, his fingers are curled (1:35:47 & 1:35:54).

At the beginning of the fight between Noisy Boy and Midas as Charlie and Max are standing on the rising platform on the edge of the ring, Max first has his arms down by his sides (28:16 to 28:21 from behind), then he is holding a briefcase under his right arm with his left hand steadying its front (28:22 to 28:26 from in front), then both arms are at his sides and his right hand is holding the briefcase by its handle (28:27 to 28:29 from behind) when Charlie hands him a second bag so he is holding one bag in each hand as he steps into the ring.

Q
Why did Farra (Zeus' owner) want to buy Atom, an old generation sparring robot?
A
Farra tells Charlie and Max that she wants to buy Atom as a sparring bot for Zeus. However, given her reaction to Max refusing to sell Atom and her reaction to Atom winning the fight against Twin Cities, it seems that this is not her real intention but rather that she is trying to use her money to control the sport (as Max says when he calls her out after the Twin Cities fight). Farra likely saw Atom as a threat to Zeus, as he really had no fighting pattern (Zeus's main feature was to adapt to other bots' patterns) and as a sparring bot he was also able to take a lot of hits and last longer in a fight. Knowing this, Farra tried to buy Atom to sort of move the threat out of the way and control the sport with her money.
