Trivia
Throughout the show, Tommy is seen wearing a "Leary Firefighters Foundation" t-shirt. The Leary Firefighters Foundation is a charity which was founded by Denis Leary in response to the 1999 fire in Leary's hometown of Worcester, Massachusetts, which killed six firefighters, one of them being Leary's cousin. The LFF provides funding and equipment for fire departments in the United States.

Lenny Clarke was originally offered the part of Chief Reilly, but turned down the role due to his commitment with It's All Relative (2003) and took up the part of Gavin's Uncle Teddy after that show was cancelled.

The part of Laura from Seasons 1 and 2 was based on real-life FDNY firefighter Brenda Berkman, whom was placed with the department in 1982 after a discrimination lawsuit.

Towards the end of season 3 when Tommy confronts Johnny's killer, he mentions that Johnny was 41. Johnny is later called Tommy's little brother. However, since Tommy and Janet met in high school and had a child then (Colleen) who in season 4 is 18, that would put Tommy and Janet both in their mid-30's.

Q
Why was there no season 5 in 2008?
A
Denis Leary has stated that because of the writer's strike they would have had to make a very short season 5 in the time alotted, probably no more than 6 episodes. The alternate choice was to make an extra-long fifth season (22 episodes). The catch was they would have to wait until 2009 before they could start airing, and the first episode was aired on FX on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009.To help keep people entertained for 2008, the cast and crew created "mini-sodes" (5-8 minute skits) released once a week online.
Q
What is this/that/some song from Rescue Me?
