In one of the scenes in which Douglas Gresham is reading in bed, you can see he is reading The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. Tolkien was a good friend and colleague of C.S. Lewis.
In one of the scenes in Magdalen College Chapel, a character is shown singing from a copy of the "New English Hymnal" which was not published until the 1980s. The descant to one of the hymns sung was also written later than the date at which the film is set.
Jack: Why love, if losing hurts so much? I have no answers anymore: only the life I have lived. Twice in that life I've been given the choice: as a boy and as a man. The boy chose safety, the man chooses suffering. The pain now is part of the happiness then. That's the deal.
Any information on the name or significance of the unusual lapel pin Jack Lewis is wearing during the film?
A
This actually is a watch fob hanging from his lapel with the watch hidden in his left breast coat pocket. While the watch isn't visible, this is obvious in a scene about 27 minutes into the movie.
