The character "Deputy So & So" was never given a real name in this movie. In the credits he is just listed as "Deputy".

Goofs
Ellison finds a scorpion in the attic of the house when he first ventures up there. We find out later that the house is in Pennsylvania. Scorpions, mostly found in subtropical climates, are not native to Pennsylvania. When Ellison mentions it to the deputy, he reacts as if it was a normal occurrence, rather than pointing out that it would have had to have been planted there.

Ellison states in the movie that 8mm film was invented in 1966 by Kodak Inc. but this is incorrect. 8mm film was invented in 1932 for home movies. Super-8 film (the film type actually used to film the murders in the movie, not 8mm contrary to Ellison's statements), was invented and sold for home use in 1965, a year before 1966. There was no type of film invented in 1966.

Near the beginning of the film, we see Ashley painting a girl in red on the wall. We see that Ashley has painted the girl fully in red, however, in the next shot we see that the girl has a white space where the red paint was before.

Q
A Note Regarding Spoilers
A
The following FAQ entries may contain spoilers. Only the biggest ones (if any) will be covered with spoiler tags. Spoiler tags have been used sparingly in order to make the page more readable.
Q
How are all the murders related?
A
Each family had previously lived in the house in which one of the other murders took place. The Stevens previously lived in the Millers' house after they'd been killed, and the Millers had previously lived in house where the "Lawn Massacre" occurred and so on and so on. The actual connection is that, after the first family was drowned in 1966 and the first snuff was made, someone in the next family to move into the house watched the film and got exposed to the demon Bughuul's image. Presumably the paranormal disturbances caused by Bughuul's presence drove the family to their new house where they were soon afterwards murdered and a new snuff film was made. The same pattern kept repeating over and over up until present day to the hangings of the Stevens in the backyard of the Oswalts' new house, which is how they got trapped in the demon's timeline. It's implied that the next people who move into the Oswalts' house (their original home in which they were murdered) will become the next victims.
