Trivia
Director Jan de Bont initially felt that Speed (1994) had no sequel potential, but he was contractually obliged to direct a sequel when it was green-lit after the success of the first movie. Many ideas were pitched, including a plane which cannot ascend above a certain altitude without exploding. Finally, de Bont used an idea of his own after he had recurrent nightmares about a cruise ship crashing into an island.

Another reason why Keanu Reeves opted out of the sequel was because he had just completed another large-scale action film, Chain Reaction (1996).

A total of 3 different ships were used in this film: Seaborn Legend (actual cruise liner; used for most exterior shots of the ship) "Bridge Ship" (Sturgeon Atlanic frighter ship built with a false hull and bridge; used for bridge scenes and the boat crashes in the marina) "Rail Ship" (false hull built on an underwater rail; used for the island crash finale scene). All other shots of the ship were complete computer graphic effects.

Goofs
Bow thrusters are primarily used to maneuver a ship away from a dock. Run for several minutes, they could typically rotate a ship by a few degrees. There is no way they could perform the violent turn to avoid the supertanker in the film. Also, bow thruster tubes normally have operable doors on either side to cover the propellers while the ship is moving. This protects the bow thrusters which can be broken if exposed while the ship is traveling at high speed.

Before the collision with the Eindhoven Lion, The Seabourn Legend sails towards the Coast, but right after the collision with The Eindhoven Lion, The Seabourn Legend turns 90 degrees and it's facing towards open sea. But later, the ship is still sailing towards the coast.

Q
Will There be a Speed 3 movie?
A
From Wikipedia:Yes and no. From Wikipedia:"Speed 3" is the third episode of the third series of the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted and the 20th episode overall. The episode parodies the action-thriller film Speed and the sequel Speed 2: Cruise Control. Speed 3 was written after the show's writers Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews asked themselves: "How can we make a worse sequel than Speed 2?" On Channel 4's Father Ted Night this episode was voted the fans' favourite episode.
