The first two seasons were produced and broadcast by network channel Veronica. After that the series was picked up by and moved to commercial channel RTL4.

At the start of the series, the name 'Spijkerhoek' refers to the town square where most of the characters live. This area was supposedly situated in the fictional town of 'Amersdam' as made evident by Willy v.d. Akker's address seen on an envelope: Spijkerhoek 3, Amersdam 1639 AD. However, later on, the entire village is is referred to as 'Spijkerhoek'.
