Lilian "Peg" Entwistle (whose Broadway performance in Ibsen's 'The Wild Duck', according to Bette Davis, was her inspiration to become an actress) committed suicide in 1932 by jumping from the Hollywood sign. Her suicide inspired Dorey Previn's song "Mary C Brown and the Hollywood Sign".

Katherine Heigl's character was Katharine Hepburn's stand-in. Permission was not granted to use Hepburn's name, so references to Rita Hayworth were dubbed in post-production.

Rita Hayworth was not a star in 1937. It's unlikely she had a stand-in at that time.
